Piz Boè and Vallon in the heart of the Sella Group are mongst the most amazing excursions in the Dolomites. A “must-do” for those who want to admire the breathtaking 360 ° views, easily reachable with the services of chairlifts and cable cars and with moderately demanding hike. Today we tell you about our wonderful day at high altitude departing from the Hotel Sassongher in Corvara towards Vallon, with a double stop at the Alpine Lounge Piz Boè at m. 2,180 and at the mountain hut Franz Kostner at m. 2,600.

From Hotel Sassongher to Boè cablecar

Vallon excursion from Corvara, let’s go! After an exquisite breakfast at the hotel, the convenient shuttle service of the Hotel Sassongher takes us directly to the departure point of the cabinovia Boè in Corvara, where we take the cable car towards Vallon. The trip suspended in the cabin is already exciting, you can admire the summit of Sassongher in front of us, the Hotel Sassongher we have just left right and at its foot, Corvara and the valley. Upon arrival at the Piz Boè Alpine Lounge Refuge at m. 2,180 our first stop. The views is great, the surrounding meadows invite you to stop and relax, inviting trails for excursions, it’s a paradise. A stop for a coffee whilst admiring the surrounding peaks: Fanes, Conturines, Col di Lana … It’s time now to continue our journey, Vallon is our destination!

Cablecar Boè, up to 2180 mts.

From the Boe cable car to the Vallon chairlift.

At about 100 meters from the arrival point of the Boè cable car, we find the Vallon chairlift that takes us to the top from where our hike will start. From the chairlift we admire the beautiful Lake Boè wedged between the white walls of dolomite rock. Ten minutes by chairlift and 300 meters in altitude and we arrive at Vallon, m. 2,500. In front of us one of the most spectacular, impressive and majestic landscape of the Dolomites, Vallon.

Excursion to Vallon up to Mountain Hut Franz Kostner

Vallon (Valun in Ladin) is a rock amphitheater that rises with all its Dolomite majesty. It is a natural alpine habitat that invites to a nice excursion. We walk along the Roda de Valun path which starts to the right of the chairlift and leads us under the majestic walls of Sas dles Diesc (m. 2,916) and Sas dle Nue (m. 2,904). We continue along the Cime del Valon (2901 m) to the typical mountain hut Franz Kostner ( m. 2,600)

We continue around the Vallon, at a slow pace and with a few stops. Walk of an hour and a half, without haste, admiring this beautiful Dolomite landscape and grasping its secret life and the history of millions of years. There is no doubt that this scenery is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Franz Kostner mountain hut really deserves a stop. You can taste the delicious flavours from the Dolomite tradition, admiring the landscape like the Marmolada glacier and the peaks of the Alpe di Fanes on the horizon. If you have time, in Vallon you can also discover the Dolomites Faces, a path to discover the characters of millenary legends of the Dolomites. Just stop at the 3 convenient viewpoints, observe the mountains and let your imagination run free!

The view is wonderful, but our program of pampering and relaxation at Hotel Sassongher is inviting too! We take the chairlift again (be careful, always check the closing times which may depend on the weather!) and go back down to Corvara, where the Hotel Sassongher shuttle awaits us. Tired but happy with a wonderful day spent in the heart of the Dolomites.
