Tour from the “Jimmy Hütte” to Corvara. Wonderful hike!
Jëuf de Frara, Cir, Col Pradat, Corvara…these places with somewhat bizarre sounding names, are well know worldwide as wonderful destinations for a hiking tour in the Alta Badia region, Dolomites.
Amongst the most beautiful excursion in the Dolomites is a track that we particularly love and recommend with great pleasure to our guests and friends, the tour from the Jimmy Hütte mountain hut. Departing from the Hotel Sassongher by car and returning by foot to Corvara. Pleasant, accessible to all and amazingly beautiful!
We at Hotel Sassongher 5* in Corvara, Dolomites – we are used to walking this tour often, certainly for the friendship of the fantastic staff at the Jimmy Hütte mountain hut and because it is simply lovely to be up there! Have a look at some of the many amazing photos we took. Ready to go? Here follows the program!
From the Hotel Sassongher 5* in Corvara to the Jimmy Hütte and return walk to Corvara
Goodmorning! After a great breakfast at our Hotel Sassongher 5* in Corvara, we are ready to start a great day in the Dolomites. The shuttle service provided by the hotel is an exclusive and very convenient service that in 10 mins takes us directly to the Gardena Pass. Here we start our pleasant walk, direction Jëuf de Frea (2121 mt.) and then the path nbr. 2 up to 2.222 mts.
After just 20 min walking, WOW! The breathtaking panoramic terrace of the Jimmy Hütte appears in front of us.
The mountain hut Jimmy Hütte is located at the foot of the Gran Cir (2592 mts), the dominant peak of the dolomitic group Pizes dla Cir. Those who choose can just stop here for the day, have a typical lunch and a great local wine and enjoy the majestic views.
The Jimmy Hütte is also an alpine crossroads for hikers and rock climbers. From here, in fact, you can climb to the ferrata of the Grande Cir (2592 mts) and to the Piccolo Cir (2520 mts), or you can climb the “Forcella Cir” towards the Puez plateau. There is also the possibility to descend to Val Gardena with the Dantercepies cable car.
However, the nicest and the most scenic walk, in our opinion, is the hiking track to Corvara.
Excursion in Alta Badia: path nbr. 8
This path in Alta Badia is amongst the most beautiful of tracks. It begins descending the 8A path for 200 mts and soon after nbr 8, a flat path.
The landscape changes at every step: from the shapes of the rocks, to the colours of the mountain pines, meadows and trees. Everything expresses an amazingly beautiful panorama that just leaves you speechless.
Amazing view to the Pordoi Mountain Group
The majestic Sella-Pordoi Group accompanies us all the way on the right. The view is priceless at the view of some of the best peaks in the world: Col dle Mesores, Val Setus, Pisciadù, Torre Brunico, the Campanili del Mesdì. It is a gentle and easily accessible path for all. Many view stops are present for your rest and to enjoy the panorama, such as at the “Fontana del Salvan” or the Utia Forceles. From this point, after approx. 800 mt of walking, we take path nbr. 4 which enters into the Stella Alpina Valley.
Amazing Sass Cianpac View
The whole path no. 8 is “protected” by imposing dolomites rocky walls: Col Torron, Sas Ciampac, Sass Ciampei which dominate the left side of the Stella Alpina Valley. The Sassongher mountain appears in its majesty when we turn right from path Antriul on path no. 4A, from where we begin the descent to Corvara. On the right we leave Col Pradat (1997 m.) and along a zigzag path we descend through the Val de Merscia to Pescosta, hamlet of Corvara (1574 mt).
This, since the 13th century, is the birth place of the families of both Richard and Rita’s Pescosta and where our beloved Sassongher Hotel is located.

Excursion in Alta Badia, magical encounters with nature
The beauty of this excursion is truly rewarding. We are surrounded by the breathtaking Dolomite landscapes, field scents and suggestive flowers, such as the Red Lily of San Giovanni (Lilium Bulbiferum), a symbol for our land often used as decoration in the wood carvings and traditional Ladin fabrics.
It blooms at the beginning of the summer season, in the period of the summer solstice – that’s why we like to think of it as our natural symbol of life regeneration.
Back to the Deluxe Hotel Sassongher in Corvara
